(Note: I am not sharing this to Twitter or other social media accounts just because I like to feel that there should be benefits to directly subscribing to this newsletter - something I am putting a lot of thought into. However, if you want to share this post I won’t object!)
Thanks to my begging promotional efforts on Twitter and with the kind assistance of a number of great people, there are a lot of new subscribers signing up for regular updates of How About This during the past couple of days. Quite exciting!
Subscriber counts are still quite small compared to other newsletters and outlets but in the past month the number of subscribers has almost tripled. We are just shy of 60 E-mail subscribers and if I add in other people who I know are subscribed via RSS readers we’re just about there. So, thank you all and welcome!
Given the new arrivals I’m going to rerun part of a post that I ran last weekend just to help everyone get oriented (it still applies):
Here’s what you can expect during a typical week at How About This:
Mondays: interviews with interesting Atlantic Canadians like @katynotie and @dawnymock or other Atlantic Canada related content (alternating with the interviews), the “Atlantic Canada day” [note: I’m building up a pipeline of interviews and interviewees - if you have any suggestions of people to interview, please E-mail me or leave a comment below]
Wednesdays: writing about some other topic of interest: creativity, learning, cognition, writing… the “brainy day” (an example)
Fridays: me sharing links to other great articles, newsletters or websites that I’ve enjoyed, things I think you’d also enjoy, the “linky day” (an example)
Weekends (optional): whatever comes to mind that I think is important or interesting to share. (an example) I might publish fiction at some point, too.
And, as you are seeing today (Thursday) I might publish extra stuff outside of the normal rhythm.
I greatly value your readership and feedback provided to date. I have high hopes for where all of this could go and I thank you for being the initial wave of readers and supporters.
I love comments and feedback! Feel free to fill up the comments boxes and E-mails! And I appreciate any and all feedback and support to date!
In closing I am very grateful that you’ve chosen to spend some of your time and attention on this endeavor. I would like to be realistic about all of this but I do want to grow How About This as an antidote to doomscrolling and misinformation. I also want to introduce everyone to more great people in Atlantic Canada (and from elsewhere, to be sure). If if a little E-mail newsletter from New Brunswick/Atlantic Canada reaches the rest of the world, it would be great. And why the hell not?
Take care!
Thanks Mark, for making a real effort to make things better in our world. I for one, appreciate it
Always a great read - and the letter from New Brunswick makes it to at least this UK address!
