In which our intrepid web scout reports back on their discoveries
Can’t believe we’re at the end of another week! Here’s some of the interesting things we’ve encountered this week, starting with videos and podcasts:
Morgan on books and learning (YouTube morganeua) - Morgan is a PhD candidate based in Canada (?) who started out as a #booktube enthusiast and she has expanded her videos to include learning and learning systems, including her approach to notetaking and information management. I love her ability to take a topic that may be dull to some and infuse it with enthusiasm and joy plus some good polish.
The Personal Knowledge Management podcast (PKM podcast on YouTube) - Jonathan and Danny are extremely bright and amusing guys from the UK who are uber interested and enthusiastic about knowledge management, taking both an academic and business approach to these tools. Even when I don’t quite understand what the heck they are talking about they are entertaining and educational. It may be a bit inside baseball but I think it’s great.
If you want to know what’s happening to the two human-made objects that have travelled the furthest distance away from planet (and should we be worried that they are running out of steam), check out Swapna’s great short video.
Also, if you love guitars and pop/rock music, Rick Beato’s videos are delightful.
Next, talking about posts and articles:
Why we need rituals, not routines - over at VOX, Terry Nguyen digs into the differences between rituals and routines. Another area of interest, it seems to me that rituals have a lot of untapped power for many of us.1
Moon Monday #82 - if you want to find out what’s really going on with the Moon these days, check this one out.
Great little Twitter thread about Pixar and storytelling
The challenges of making a non-fiction book easy to navigate - just discovered Terry’s newsletter and this caught my eye immediately.
Finally, a bit of shameless self-promotion2: last week I wrote a primer and somewhat spoilery review of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds which is one of my favorite posts that I’ve ever written. I put it in a new section of the newsletter which isn’t fully configured so it might not have gone out by E-mail last week. So, here it is in case you missed it.
Until next time!
Mind you, I’m not talking about demon summoning or something like that…
Well actually…
