You could be A Mark of Good Writing, but also This Mark of Good Writing, or The Mark of Good Writing. Hell, I'd opt for Sir Mark of Good Writing if I were you!
Thank you for the retrospective! And congratulations on the year! As a new reader this is super helpful... Like a little navigational tool into How About This.
I hope I am not being sentimental when I interpreted the end of 'Picard' as introducing another series with Jeri Ryan as captain and Q now hounding and haunting Picard's son. But just as we are susceptible to the 'pitfall', to use your term, of nostalgia, we can imagine that simply because the content of this sentiment is 'in' the future, that suddenly it frees itself of its nostalgic essence. I wonder if, as a game designer as well - and one who hopes our companies brand 'Archetypes' represents the break with 'D and D' style quest games - there is a pitfall awaiting the person who feels they are swinging across that chasm on a rope of their own invention, only to find that the rope is actually the pendulum.
Hi Greg. I think the Picard showrunners are clearing telegraphing the possibility of a new series. The name Star Trek Legacies (or Legacy) has been talked about, featuring the crew of the newly rechristened Enterprise-G. I think it will be a significant challenge to overcome the nostalgic flavour that this new series would have with its strong ties to Next Generation, Voyager and Picard itself, but I think it would need to do so to be successful. Or maybe more people will take their point of departure from Picard, who knows?
I am relieved that I was not imagining things, being a huge Sir Patrick Stewart fan, though he himself would not reappear, presumably, in any way in such a new series. But I must say my truest fantasy is having him play the 'BL' character in my epic saga 'Kristen-Seraphim', who is in fact God in mufti (excuse a sub-thematic spoiler there). Playing God would be a fitting capstone to his career, indeed, the only one worthy enough I can imagine.
I can't believe the Star Trek and D&D post are from so (relatively) long ago. A mark of good writing that they remain so vivid in my memory!
I always wanted to be known as a Mark of good writing!

The newsletter year? Ha love it. I really did enjoy your short story, definitely a highlight.
Newsletter year = fiscal year with no financial impact whatsoever (well, possibly negative. Probably, actually.)
