SOME NEW THINGS
It’s the 12th edition of the link posts at How About This! Four notes to start:
Cross Promotion - another cross-promotion worth checking out plus a mention of The Sample.
The week of Aug. 29 - Sept. 2 is going to be a mega interviews week! Four interviews: two Atlantic Canadian interviews, two Creator Profiles! Still hoping to have How About These Links that week but it may be a bit shorter than normal. The week of Sept. 5 - 9 may also be a mega interviews week, to be confirmed!
Subscriptions and newsletter sections: I wanted to clarify something for those of you who are a little more savvy about Substack newsletters that I may be. There are currently four sections to the newsletter: How About This (the “main” newsletter), Atlantic Canada Mondays, The Curious Realizer and Dispatches from the Imagination. However, I am currently publishing everything by E-mail under the main How About This newsletter. This means that if you only subscribe to Atlantic Canada Mondays, The Curious Realizer or Dispatches from the Imagination you probably won’t receive any E-mails. You need to stay subscribed to How About This to keep getting E-mails. I *may* start using the extra sections as independent newsletters but I have no plans to do this in the short term. All this to say: you don’t need to do or change anything at the moment! If I change my publication strategy I will give you plenty of advance notice about it!
Month end post: How About This is almost 4 months old! I’m going to do another month end post but it will be a bit late this month, it probably won’t be published until Sept. 3 or 4 due to other commitments.
The H.A.T. Scouts are getting really anxious, let’s see what they’ve found.
CROSS-PROMOTION(S)
10+1 Things, published by Rishikesh! Rishi provides an interesting mixture of topics in their newsletter every 2 weeks: “11 interesting things handpicked from the vast universe of information, (aiming) to deliver information you wouldn’t have seen otherwise in a digital world filled with bots and algorithms.” See the most recent newsletter. Consider checking out 10+1 Things!
Also:
If you have a newsletter and want to expose your work to more people, consider signing up for The Sample (referral link) to join a network of other publishers who use The Sample. It’s also another good way to find newsletters tailored to your interests and quickly subscribe to them.
OVER THERE (found elsewhere)
‘
If you’re not reading Bryn’s newsletter and in you’re interested in science and communication, get over there and subscribe!!
Shane’s written several books and he’s starting a short series on the process, definitely worth checking out!
Elle Griffin talks about her writing rituals - she may be living the dream!
I am a huge fan of libraries, having volunteered in various capacities in the library system for years. Great to see other people recognizing their value!
This post reflected on the Quiet Quitting topic that people are talking about is interesting. Note: much of the content on Anne Helen’s newsletter is for paid subscribers but I’m pretty sure this post is available to everyone.
BACK HERE (the past week’s posts)
Really thoughtful interviews with Jarvis Googoo, Thomas J. Bevan, CBC’s Jeanne Armstrong - my thanks to them for making themselves available.
Lots of great comments and discussion in this week’s Creative Realizer post about collecting things.
*PREENS*
This is a preen-free issue, alas, guess I need to keep working!
RELEASE
Time to release the H.A.T. Scouts for another week! And remember, it’s always better to be a H.A.T.T.E.R.1 than a hater.
H.A.T.T.E.R. = How About This Terribly Enthusiastic Reader
Congrats on 4 months of writing, Mark! I see a bright future for the work you're putting out.
The Sample looks like it could be the ticket to getting more subscribers. I'm truly interested in that. You can only hit so many "likes" and then hope to get subscribers.
