I also share Russell's exact views on mainstream films: they're fine, but fine doesn't interest me.

When this post dropped into my inbox, I was really pleased! Your interviews are some of my favourite posts of yours and this was great. My favourite line: 'I have never met a form of authority I didn't immediately want to buck against and smack in the face.' Few phrases are truer to me - and that's not millennial (I'm certainly not, having been born well before 1982), that's just 'thoughtful human'.

Oh, and I wanted to be a film director, too. Though I think it was probably the world's gain that I didn't.
