FIRST: I’d like to knowledge the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, thanks for her long and devoted service. Both of my grandmothers were born in the UK and I’ve always lived with a sense of respect for the British monarchy, despite its ups and downs. May Her Majesty rest easy now.
And, per tradition, God Save The King, Charles III.
SOME NEW THINGS
Return to regular schedule: I hope you’ve enjoyed the extra interviews that I’ve been publishing of late; the plan is to revert back to the regular schedule on Sept. 12/22: Monday/Tuesday interviews posts, Creative Realizer on Wednesdays and link posts (like this one) on Fridays.
Onward.
OVER THERE (found elsewhere)
Bryn tells us about her dissertation defense, with the return to school season putting her in a thoughtful mood.
Clintavo shares some thoughts about Atomic Habits and presents an intriguing continuum model for the growth of a creator.
In a case of having to add my own thoughts to the mix, I wrote a quick response to Clintavo’s essay, wondering when the basics are too basic.
I’m excited to see Jillian Hess’s new Substack Noted, where she dives into examples of personal notes in the tradition of commonplace books. Jillian has literally wrote the (or at least a) book about commonplace books.
BACK HERE (the past week’s posts)
More great interviews with Jenna Lyn Albert, Bryan Padrick, Ron Sexsmith and @mama_ezekiel - thanks to them for making themselves available and providing thoughtful answers.
RELEASE
Remember, it’s always better to be a H.A.T.T.E.R. than a hater. And rest easy, our late queen.
I enjoyed these links, Mark. And I realize that I need to let Bryn know that I enjoyed her recollection of her defense, too! I, too, unexpectedly found Queen Elizabeth's death more moving than I had expected. She was Queen for my entire life, and I guess we don't recognize the ways that larger things (like nations) can become personified. I'm not a monarchist in any sense of the word, but I can see the tug and the rationale.
Keep up the good work!
Looking forward to the Creative Realizer’
