For months I’ve been posting a good morning Tweet and a good evening Tweet. I’ve rarely missed a day of doing this over the past 4 months, maybe longer. Here’s a recent example:
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s gmorning Tweets inspired me to start this twice-a-day ritual. Miranda used these Tweets to motivate himself in the early part of each day and the Tweets became meaningful to many of his followers. Here’s a fitting example:
Even today, when he doesn’t seem to do these so often, a Twitter search will reveal multiple people using gmorning in their Tweets.
There’s even a “no context” Twitter account that will repackage and Retweet Miranda’s older Tweets:
I use the good morning and good night Tweets in a similar way. I hope other people read them and I’m glad if they do. During the worst times of COVID restrictions it often felt like everyone was trapped and needed some cheer, even some encouragement. That’s what I’ve tried to do, even as restrictions have been dropped.
Sometimes I’m just trying to be witty. I’d like to think that I succeed occasionally!
Attention is one of the most valuable resources out there. There are many motivations for using social media. Sometimes it makes sense to do small things like hiding your birthday from Facebook. Other small things, though, like a simple Tweet twice a day to check in and make sure everyone else is OK, maybe distract them temporarily - that seems to me to be a good use of whatever attention you might be able to muster.
Over to you. What can you do to make the world a slightly better place, whether it’s with a nod, a smile, a kind word or sharing world changing information?
The choice, as always, is yours.
I like it! Twitter needs more positivity.
